Building collapses in UP’s Meerut, many feared trapped

Several people are feared trapped under the debris of a two-storey building, which collapsed in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut on Saturday evening.
Police and fire department personnel are present at the spot in Zakir Colony in Meerut, and rescue operations are on. No casualties have been reported so far due to the incident.
Rescue personnel suspect that the building could have collapsed due to the rain.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Yogi Adityanath took note of the incident and instructed the rescue personnel to speed up the relief work. He further directed the officials to ensure proper treatment for the injured.
On September 7, eight people died and over 28 were injured when a three-storey building housing godowns and a motor workshop collapsed in the Transport Nagar area of Lucknow. A truck, which was parked near the building, was also crushed due to the collapse of the building. The incident occurred at around 5 pm.
According to officials, the building was being used as a godown.
